3 Peaks Challenge
Back in May, my wife bravely took on a skydive from 16,000ft in support of the OLLIE Foundation. To date this has raised a total of £2744.93 which is fantastic, so thank you to all those who supported her.
So now it was my turn to rise to the challenge. Dave Ford, a long-standing member and supporter of the AGS, kindly suggested that if I was to do the Three Peaks Challenge he would join me for moral support 😱. After a lot of thought and sleepless nights I decided to go for it.
The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales: Snowdon(1085m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Ben Nevis (1345m) within 24 hours. With a total walking distance of 23 miles 37km) and an overall ascent of 3064 metres (10,052ft) it's twice the ascent of The Yorkshire Three Peaks, over a similar total walking distance. The total driving distance is 462 miles!
On 20th September, at 7am we were off to the base of Ben Nevis. My challenge did not get off to a good start, however, and I badly damaged my cruciate ligament on the first climb, leaving me unable to complete the remainder of the course. It was pretty much over before it had begun!
However, Dave continued on, managing to complete all three peaks in the 24-hour time window and was one of only 7 who made it up and down all 3 peaks. Dave did a tremendous job of keeping up with the fast pace that was set, and smashed it 👏👏👏. Well done Dave!
I am now in recovery and thankfully won't need surgery, just lots of physio. I hope to be sufficiently recovered to be able to join everyone for my last golf event of the year at SGH on 26th October- fingers crossed 🤞 . My daughter, who is 13, is 'gently encouraging' me to still do the challenge so I have signed us both up to attempt it again, although not in 24 hours but over a more sensible 3 days this time.
Thanks again to everyone who donated to the charity and supported Dave and myself, it really does make a difference.

Laurence's Charity Skydive
Well, my amazingly brave wife Laurence, completed her 15,000ft skydive on Saturday morning and I asked if she would do it again? It was a definite "YES" it was so amazing ... although on reflection, she did say maybe from 10,000ft, as the initial free fall is like being on the fastest funfair ride you have ever been on 😂 Well done Laurence.
As you know all donations are going to The OLLIE Foundation. This is the most amazing charity which is dedicated to delivering suicide awareness, intervention and prevention training by empowering professionals and young adults in their own communities to lead suicide prevention activities. It is widely accepted in society that with appropriate support and education, suicide can be prevented.
Thank you to all who have already donated to OLLIE it is so much appreciated. If you haven’t already donated but would like to, please follow this link:

A note from your captain, May 2022
Dear Members,
Welcome to a new year of the AGS and hopefully this year will not be affected by Covid as much as the last two years have been.
I am delighted to be the Captain of the AGS this year and am very much looking forward to all the events and meeting as many of the members and guests as possible during the year. My chosen charity this year is The OLLIE Foundation which you can find out more about at https://theolliefoundation.org/
My wife has bravely offered to sky dive from 15,000 ft on 14th May in support of my chosen charity. I have set up a just giving page where you can donate: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/robert-clark-ags-captains-charity-2022.
We got off to a great start at St George’s Hill even though the weather was not so kind to us as it has been in past years. The event was a full capacity event so thank you to all those that could attend and watch my drive off the first tee. Apologies to those who were unable to secure a place and my sympathies to those that had to miss the event due to positive Covid tests.
The blob bucket was plentiful along with the re-introduction of fines for numerous misdemeanours, including our Hon Treasurer who arrived very late for the AGM, so no-one is going to be missed out this year . A big thank you goes to Danny Catchesides who kindly donated two exclusive Ceremony of the Keys tours for 4 people which each raised £800.00 for the charity. I believe the fund-raising total for the day was in excess of £2,000, so thank you very much to all those who contributed. Well done to Gary Sewell who won two of the three members’ trophies up for grabs on Captain’s Day. Also, my congratulations and sympathies go out to Tony Craven who, although winning the Guest prize with 38 points, was so loaded up with goodies that he dropped the engraved glasses on returning to his table but managed to save one of the two……… But alas this also constituted a fine!
Our second event at Parkstone was not so well attended, mostly due to Easter being late this year and still in a week of school half-term for many. That said, the members and guests that were able to attend were treated to fabulous weather and a course in superb condition with very tricky greens. Considering the low numbers, the Blob Bucket once again did exceedingly well so thank you to all for your generous contributions.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at Hankley Common on 11th May. I believe this is almost full now. This will be followed by our first venture further north for many years to Sherwood Forest which, once again, I believe is almost full so please reserve quickly not to be disappointed.
Kind regards
Rob Clark
